Join the 27th Annual DeBordieu Beach Sweep

Come out and join us for the 27th Annual DeBordieu Beach Sweep on Saturday, September 19, 2015. This is South Carolina’s largest one-day volunteer cleanup event of its kind in this area. The Sweep takes place in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy.

Protect the Wildlife
Aquatic debris is dangerous. Seeing the effects of it first-hand, by participating in the cleanup, can demonstrate that. Litter is a danger to our wildlife, our safety, and our economy.

South Carolina is lucky to have such a vast amount of wonderful aquatic resources. We are home to a diverse wildlife population. But, if we don’t care for our natural resources, they won’t continue on.

Do It For The Kids
Can you imagine a future in which your children or grandchildren won’t be able to enjoy our beaches? Won’t be able to fish or go boating? If we don’t address the consequences of our throwaway, disposable lifestyle now, these grim possibilities could become our reality, experts tell us. Don’t let it happen!

Beyond Georgetown
Every 3rd Saturday in September, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., thousands of South Carolinians clear beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes, and swamps of aquatic debris. The cleanup, organized by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and S.C. Department of Natural Resources, has taken place annually since 1988 when it was first started by Sea Grant.

Going Forward
Once the Beach Sweep is over, the Ocean Conservancy tallies up all of the information on the debris collected. This data helps them learn the sources of litter so the pollution can be stopped before it starts.

Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach

Most of us have an ongoing “To Do List” that never seems to get completed – we are continually adding more to it. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of life and not take the time for a breather. But that puts us on edge and not displaying our best selves to the friends and family we’re around every day. When what you need is to find your inner peace, we recommend you come to the beach. Many people find it right here when they get in touch with the sights, sounds and the feel of the ocean. You’re sure to agree that there’s just something about it that soothes our souls.
Leave Your Lists Behind
Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach
If you have a “To Do List” that is constantly riding you at home, don’t make one for your vacation. Play it by heart when you get here and do what feels right. Above all else, relax, and don’t rush around.
Unplug Yourself
Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach
Many people don’t realize how tied to their electronic devices they are until their battery runs dead or they lose their phone. To truly find your inner peace leave all of your mobile devices at home or at the very least, leave them in your room.
Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach
Take the time to go to the oceanfront, spread a blanket, and just sit and meditate on the sound of the waves. Listen as an occasional seagull flies overhead calling to you. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Fully take in the scent of the salt water air. This is aromatherapy at its best.
Be Gentle with Yourself
Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach
Once you’ve begun to let your inner peace come out, be gentle with yourself. Make no demands. Enjoy where you are when you’re there, wherever it may be at the moment. Enjoy a peaceful breakfast on the deck or balcony. Soak in the garden tub with a scented candle burning nearby. Start reading that romance novel you’ve been putting off.
Slowing Down
Finding Your Inner Peace at the Beach
When you take the time to move through your days at a slower pace you’ll be amazed at how much more there is to appreciate. What you see, what you hear, will all surprise you, especially if they’ve been there all the time. Get in touch with your environment, your surroundings, and you’ll find you’re more in tune with yourself.

When you want to treat yourself to the best accommodations on the coast that will nurture as well as delight you, visit DeBordieu Rentals to book your stay with us. You’ll be glad you did.

Grab the family and take in a good movie you’ve been waiting to see. There are plenty of indoor movie theatres up and down the coast. But don’t forget the popcorn!

Rainy Vacation? Solution #4

Let someone else do the driving while you stay dry on one of the many sightseeing tours in the area. Cap’n Rod’s Lowcountry Plantation Tours, Rover Boat Tours, Carolina Rover, and Swamp Fox Tours, all await to occupy your rainy days.Rainy Vacation? Solution #5

Visit the Local Museums and Plantations
Go on your own explorative tours of museums and plantations in the Georgetown area. Check out the Rice Museum, Georgetown County Museum, Kaminski House Museum, Hopsewee Plantation, Hampton Plantation, Gullah Museum, South Carolina Maritime Museum, and more.

Rainy Vacation? Solution #6

Sip & Painting Class
